Bristol Film Festival: Classic Cinematic Wonders

December 13, 2023

Words by: Tasha Barrett

The Bristol Film festival is fully catered for all filmmakers, content creators, producers, or simply just lovers of film and cinema!

The Bristol Film Festival is still running through December, providing an alternative experience and celebrating the cultural landscape of director Owen Franklin’s home city, Bristol.

Where did it all start?

The concept of the Film Festival simply arose from the idea of bringing back much-loved classic films to the big screen and to experience them like never before. Held in some of Bristol’s most iconic and unique venues that there are to offer! Ranging from Brunel’s SS Great Britain to the Redcliffe Caves.

An impressive amount of detail has been put into the festival, pairing each film individually to its own location. Ensuring that the whole event is highly immersive and really making viewers feel at one with the movie on the big screen.

From live performers, tours of the venue after hours, themed wine tastings, and more, there certainly isn’t another film experience like it.

Furthermore, the event itself takes pride and passion in collaborating with local suppliers, small businesses, and creators.

The bells are ringing out for Christmas day!

In the mood for Christmas films already to break up all the chaotic Christmas shopping? The Bristol Film Festival is showing a colourful array of Christmas delights to get you into the spirit of things. Ranging from the early Harry Potter films, to Home Alone, The Nightmare Before Christmas, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and many more!

Christmas in the Caves!

Additionally, and new for 2023, the festival is thrilled to be launching their ‘Christmas In The Caves’! Held in the Redcliffe Caves, they’re bringing an alternative take on festive film programming, and will be turning the Caves into a ‘wintry subterranean wonderland’ to suit the occasion! Get your best Christmas jumpers out the attic and enter through the military tent on Redcliffe Wharf. Grab yourself a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) from the pop-up bar, and step foot inside one of Bristol’s most unusual and exclusive locations, the ‘Underground Cinema’.

Whether it’s Christmas classics, cult favourites, or simply feel-good films that make for repeat seasonal viewing, this years lineup has something for everyone.
